The Tweets vs. Rankings Test by Branded3

Hi all, I don’t have much time but just wanted to quickly draw everybody’s attention to a study the Branded3 data team has been carrying out of the last month.

As you will probably be aware, Branded3 created and runs the websites twitition.com, a site that now has more than 1.5 million twitter followers and hundreds of thousands of petitions. Every time a petition is signed a tweet and a link is automatically generated back to the relevant page on twitition.

Any way, please go take a read of the study here – Tweets ve Rankings

There is some very interesting correlation data.

Special thanks go out to Emma Barnes and Alan Ng for putting this awesome info together.

  1. Oh come now Tim, couldn’t you at least link my awesome Game Review Blog 😀

Thanks for the thanks (um…) hope Internet World is going well for you!

  2. Hi Tim,

Intrigued to see the suggestion of “levels” here, very similar to some data i have seen for Google places and the number of reviews needed before you start to see an impact.

But I do wonder how long the results will hold for and suspect that there might be quite a quick drop off as the rankings return to old positions once the Tweets are passed.

  3. Hi Colin,

We’re working on a follow up to this study, but some of the tweets measured in the initial test were up to 12 months old.

We’re working on isolating a few factors and issuing another study, possibly in the next 4 – 6 months.

  4. An interesting post and referring websites. According to gus from SEOmoz retweets and using Twitter are very important when it comes to ranking.

  5. Hi, Really you are right because if any site has more followers than his rank can be improve automatically in present time i am seeing twitter is more popular social networking site, it is also best way to find the most visitors on his site, i am happy to read your post.
