Hi Pchef,

Thanks for that comment it adds some really good points to the discussion. You're right no will probably take in what I have said, they will continue to build their blog with spun or copied content, however I really don't see how a blog built on these methods is ever going to gain any respect. Sure you can rank a site with any kind of content these days but if you want to be successful online you have to build a business.

A lot of the high profile bloggers do advocate shortcuts, but is their blog a short cut? Are they copying content?

You can report the same news everyone else is reporting but if you are not adding something of your own why would anybody come back to your site to read it again?

I think many bloggers forget, you have to be business minded, you have to think about how you are building your brand, image, reputation and trust. If all you want to do is post other peoples stuff with no added personality, opinion or new research then you are just the same as the thousands of other reporters out there, in my opinion.

Thanks again, great comment.

Hi Tim...Interesting post to start the New Year off with...

Not producing original content is not the sole territory of the internet. I am often baffled at how you can switch channels in the middle of a newscast and see the exact same story appearing at the exact same time on the evening news. Is this accidental or is there something more to it than that? I'm pretty sure there is something more to it becasue it has been happening for so long that coincidence seems laughable.

And as the nightly newscast seems laughable because information seems to travel from one station to the other (they auctually might be using the same editors) so does the internet, at times, seem a big carbon paper hoax.

The main reason that people copy and spin content rather than write original content is becase they are LAZY.

You hit the nail on the head when you said, "If you want to stand out, if you want to be a better blogger and become an authority resource you cannot simply copy your way to the top." Unfortunatly your argument won't persuade too many of these people to change their work habits.

I am sure that you are aware that some of the biggest and most read bloggers on the internet advocate "shortcuts" as a way of thumbing their nose at the system. And while many people follow their advice most will not follow the success of their beloved gurus. There is no substitute for hard work.

I can count on one hand the bloggers that I honestly think deserve trust and respect. Which of course is the perfect reason to do what you are advocating. Becoming a true authority will grab an audience because people are hungry for something other than the BS that seems to be the norm in cyberspace.

There is a quote, not sure who said it, that went something like this, "Success is 10% inspiration and 90% perspiration." The lesson I believe to be taken from this quote is hard work really does work. Success can be achieved by anyone who is willing to put in the time, energy, and focus. Most people are not willing to do that. So we are left with faux experts.
