Hi Ricky,

SEO is about ranking highly on searh engines for a target keyword. So if you wanted to target "be a better blogger" then you would need to incorporate SEO tactics in order to achieve a top ranking on Google. Yes you can still write a blog and Yes you may generate some traffic, in fact if you blog for fun then this completely fine. However if you want to make money from blogging or you have a commercial agenda then you need to generate a lot of traffic. Many bloggers do a good job of this through social media however the traffic that really converts is search engine traffic.

Optimise pages, use relevant keywords, ensure your pages are crawable, write unique quality content, get links, get links and get more links, this is SEO and this is what will see you ranking higher on search engines and reaping the rewards of the highly profitable traffic,

I still can’t understand why SEO is really important? Do you mean good SEO=good Google PR? If it is so then Google has already mentioned that you should not worry about PR anymore. Why SEO is so important? I do not use any SEO service(or tecnique) but I am still able to get some traffic to my blog(although I am not satisfied with it).

Hi Mike,

Thanks for your comment and the input, I appreciate it.

I'm not sure where I stand on dofollow blogs, I guess a blog is there to provide quality info not to harbour PageRank, as long as it is doing that I don't see an issue either way. I guess my biggest beef with dofollow blogs is that it will naturally attract people who just want links plain and simple, I guess if you have the time for close moderation there is not really an issue.

Keep an eye on the spam, make sure comments are constructive and I don't see a problem with a dofollow blog. I gues it's down to preference.

Tim,
Great to hear about your progress with traffic, links, and business at SEOwizz. It is well deserved. Your advice on perseverance is well taken.

One of the things I like best about your blog is how you incorporate real data into the points you are making. That combined with the way you follow up on earlier "experiments" with results data is very valuable. I'll also be sure to check out Rand's article.

Thanks for the shout out regarding DoFollow blogs. I concur that there does seem to be value in leaving comments on DoFollow blogs, although it can be a time consuming process. One of the other aspects I have been weighing is the benefits of making my blog DoFollow. Potential down sides are spam control, increased moderation demands and visitors only interested in the benefits of DoFollow. However increased traffic and broader exposure might make it worthwhile.

There seems to be a lot of theories around DoFollow and NoFollow. An interesting one was to make a new blog DoFollow early on to attract more initial visitors and then switch to NoFollow after traffic has grown significantly to prevent spammers.

Loved the detailed indented listing info. I need to implement that. Thanks again for all the great info here at SEOwizz.

Hi TT,

As I said to Potatochef you have been a support from the word go and its very much appreciated. If everyone had someone like you helping them with their blogs, there would be a lot more successful blogs out there.

Glad you find the posts helpful and I'll continue to try and make them as honest and straight forward as possible.

Thanks

Hi Pchef,

Thanks for the support, it is appreciated.

Your right a large part of doing well blogging is patience, I guess the saying is true, good things come to those who wait. I also think on top of that, that you need to be doing things right both in SEO and social media. I try my best to do the social side of things but when you have a client base and you need to optimise your own site, social is unfortunately at the bottom of the priority pile.

timethief has been great we sparked up conversation at the beginning of the year and she has offered support and referrals from the word go.

I also read the other blogs you mention and Griz kindly give me a link back from his friends list, they tell you what works in a straight forward way, no messing. Sometimes a little anti social media but they're normally right in their principles.

Thanks again.

Congrats on doing well. I haved learned that if a "blogger" is doing their job correctly, then the first 6 months is just the beginning. One of my blogs which I was in a paninc about just turned one year old this month. It really was kinda just existing. No increase in traffic, readers, or adsense clicks.

Then, all of a sudden, starting in the beginning of September it literally doubled. Doubled page views, readers, and $$$ adsense revenue.

Whether you are blogging for money, to share information, or just for fun, you need paitience and persistance.

With all the SEO blogs on the internet it is hard to find just a few to read and believe in. I am down to reading just three of them:

The KeyWord Academy
How To Make Money Online With Griz
SEOwizz

I know these three are trusted sources.

Hope your blog continues to grow~~

By the way, timethief is the person that told me about you....

Hi Andrew,

The scammers are the unfortunate side of this industry, playing on peoples expectations, I feel sorry for those drawn into it but it's a learning cyrb most webmasters come through and in fact, helps you distinguish between whats ture and whats not in the future.

The indented listing has been around a while, any keywords you have on the first page which you aren't planning on doing any specific link buulding to, simply link them up and try and get a double listing, this should give you a similar click through rate to second and third place without the effort.
