@seooptim

I agree that keywords used should be targeted towards a relevant ordiance, and that content should be relevant. I don't think you can necessarily optimise for a search engine anymore as keyword stuffing died years ago, users enter search queries therefore any search phrase you optimise for has been used by a potential user, buyer or whatever audience you are targeting. Relevance is always an issue and picking buyer keywords is sometimes a game of chance, this article was aimed at bloggers who generally want to increase their organic traffic because in the world of blogging unique visitors equals money.

The volume of traffic is an important metric for any business, but in the end it's all about converting that traffic. Learn whom your visitors are, target content to their needs, not just the needs of a search engine, and build your business through improving the relevance of the content on your site. Organic search is a very important source of traffic - use it wisely.

Hello Kevin,

When looking for longtail keywords I always use the broad match, this is because an exact match would normally show zero searches and that is not (in my opinion) an accurate figure. PLus using broad matches gives you a good idea of how many people are searching around that particular niche set of keywords.

For example, I targetted this post for "increase organic search engine traffic" however the search traffic hitting this post comes in around 20 - 30 variables like, increase search engine traffic, get more organic seach traffic, how to target organic search engines etc......

Using broad match means you can target keyword sets that you would miss if you switched to exact match.

Hope this helps

For these google searches that you descirbe above, for the "Match Type" catagory are you using the broad or the exact search type? Does this correlate with the difference between searching for an exact phrase and searching just the phrase by itself in the search bar? Can you just explain a little bit about that match type please. Thanks.

Thanks Tim for this useful information. I had to go to about 15 pages that showed up in google for "how find easy longtail" before I finally found some good information. It's always nice to find a site with some real ( I mean useful) content.
