Why You Need To Start Blogging

One of the main pieces of advice I give to anyone wanting to increase Google rankings, is to start a blog, or maintain the one they have better. Blogging is fulfilling on many levels and will help you build both a personal and professional profile. Some of us blog for monetary reasons, others for promotional, and then there are those who simply do it for the hell of it.

Below are some of the reasons why I would recommend becoming a proactive blogger:-

Get Your Thoughts Down

A blog is a great place to put your thoughts down, it’s a place where you can begin to create some clarity about ideas you have in your field. Many describe a blog as a “21st century diary” and for many it is. When you right down your thoughts it is important that they make sense and naturally flow, this helps us to brainstorm the area were writing about and often leads to greater understanding.

Brand and Reputation Building

If you know the area you write about and you display a professional knowledge, you will soon build up a number of regular readers and subscribers.

OK, your not going to be a superstar through this medium but what you are going to create is a group of people who have a positive association with you or your companies name. These people will no doubt have dealings in these industries and a positive ‘fan’ base will help you or your company attain a reputation of quality. Your readers will help spread positive references around the web, creating links, readers, higher rankings and traffic.

Business Growth

You can have all the credentials, references and testimonials you want but a blog helps you display the expertise you really have in writing. A number of SEO Wizz clients have first read the blog, liked it and begun to understand how the methods spoken of can help their business. At the end of the day, if you want people to buy from you, they first need to feel like they know you, trust you and believe in you. Creating a quality blog helps to create all three of these fundamental attributes.

Sharing Knowledge

I am a great believer that when you provide a real benefit to someone, that same benefit will eventually find it’s way back to you. By sharing my knowledge for free on SEO Wizz, I have gained new clients, new friends and new ideas. People do appreciate the effort you put in to provide quality information, one day it will reap it’s rewards.

OK OK, I know you want some ‘SEO’ specific advantages, well here we go….

Increasing Content

Google loves a site that is increasing in quality, unique content. Creating it will allow you to rank higher in the serps and therefore drive more traffic to your site. The amount of indexable content on a site and it’s relationship with higher rankings has been noted at SEOMoz and here at SEO Wizz with “Google Ranking Factors

Keyword Targeting

Creating new posts allows you to also target new keywords. Try to optimise your blog posts for a set keyword and watch your traffic slowly build. You can optimise a whole post for a particular longtail keyword and dominate the serps.

Internal Linking

If your not doing this already please start. You should link back to your homepage from each of your posts, anchoring the text appropriately. Please don’t underestimate this, it is extremely powerful and is one of the reasons SEO Wizz is sitting at 32 for “seo” on Google.com, even though the site is only 6 months old.

Blogging is the only form of online promotion that allows you to achieve all of the above, so if your not doing it, please please, get started.

Great article, it make sense to have a blog no matter what type of website you own.
