You can’t control your anchor text in every situation, for example if someone finds your site likes the content and decides to link back, they are probably going to use your site name or your personal name.

However there are a lot of links you can control for example article marketing, directory listings, guest posting and link partnerships.

I’m new to this, Tim, so I may have got this all back to front but I don’t understand where you say ” The aspect that makes them rank here is simply down to their links and more specifically how they have anchored them.”

I understand that for an internal link it is up to me what text I use as the anchor.

But for a link from another site, Isn’t it down to the person running the site that is linking to you to decide what text he/she is going to use to anchor the link?

So how do you control that?

In this post I was using the web CEO tool, I find the results are more accurate and the software is built to manage clients.

I also use SEO elite you get the results a little quicker but I find it to be tad less accurate. When looking at links there are only 3 I would use, the two I have mentioned and linkscape.

Thanks for dropping in, I know the anchor text tutorial isn’t exactly fresh but I see so much stuff online that highlights the fact that people still don’t get it. Some high profile blogs out there turn SEO into some sort of mystical code, when really it’s fairly straight forward, the hardest part is dedicating the time and effort.

The commenters are funny it is quite worrying though when I get fellow SEO consultants and firms, dropping comments on my site anchored, not only because it carries very little link juice but my blog is no follow….hmmm
