Henrik,

Ye I have stumbled across discussions of that sort quite a lot over the years, but never really got too taken in by it.

I am still trying to figure out how to go about this research, I was going to put a cheap ugly looking blog together but I would hate Google to think I was spamming an messing up my profile. I'll think on it and may be even implement a page on this site focused on a low competition keyword.

Again thanks for getting involved with this one :)

Michael,

I have always used outbounds in terms of raising relevancy but more and more I beginning to think they may have more weight than anyone ever thought. We all know that Google are always looking for ways to tighten up their algorithm, maybe they have decided to give weight or more weight to directing traffic to outside quality sources?

As I said in my post I plan on doing a good bit of research on this. As I have stated on my seo services page, seo is like a huge jigsaw and to get ahead in competitive markets you have to have them all nicely fitted together, so outbounds isn't a single solution but it will be interesting to understand it's effect on ranking.

Thanks for the comment.

Hm. I've been advising people to use outbound links to establish relevancy for years. I'm always glad to see someone else notice their usefulness, but our field is now large enough that this realization has occurred more than once in different corners of the industry.

Hi Ben,

I've always advised clients that a few backlinks establishes authority however I have never considered the effectiveness of it.

From what I am finding out and what you have just said it seems all to obvious.

Thanks for your comment.

I work in the SEO field. I spent a lot of time giving outbound links consideration.

Being fortunate to have a number of high ranking websites, I also had the ability to experiment.

The conclusion I came to is that an outbound link, to say a client's "professional body or association" gave so much credibility, that it outweighed the
downside of sending traffic out of a website though an outbound link.

It was such a success that I regularly use it as a simple SEO tool.

Ben Sykes
SEO Consultant
